But non-overwintering onions from set will bolt if they go through too many frosts.....and that's the last thing you want with onions that are being grown for storage.

I planted mine two weeks ago, straight in the plot and theyve started coming up. I imagine if youve sprouted them indoors theyre good to go now.

Planted Onion sets over the weekend 1000+ have gone in , now just got to finish the rabbit proof fencing around them, because the rabbits around here love to chew the green shoots as soon as they appear.
Will post pics when they are up and growing.
The weather forecast says that it is going to be milder and showery, the rain will settle the roots , I'm hopeful that if we have the odd cold spell they will survive .
Still eating onions grown last year ,not many been lost in storage and those I did nt think would store I chopped up and froze,  we should nt have to buy onions this year.
We grow vegetables to supply the kitchen of a Residential Home for adults with learning difficulties, usually feeding around 20 people daily , before anyone says thats a lot of onions ,Yes it is ! Same amount of leeks going in too ! Just going to sow the seed in boxes today in unheated greenhouse.
