I don't use chemicals, and the butterflies  got through the mesh I had over the brassicas,  so  I took it off to hand clear the caterpillars. I was helped with this job by a few wasps voraciously tucking into them!  I think wasps have got a bad press, but then I've never been stung!!!

I have, and am allergic, but still think they get a bad press.  They are generally peaceable, if persistent.    And they have their place in the cycle of things.

Now, my neighbour has hornets in her shed.  I'm being very wary around that end of the plot ....

Last summer I disturbed a wasps' nest in the front garden and ended up with five stings, including one that somehow got inside my shoe. Now I'm a bit more careful when I venture into shrubbery

The wasps have more helpful than ever this year killing unwanted pests! I'm only wary of them once the fruits are ripe and they get their sugar rage.

My 4 year old recieved his first wasp sting yesterday, and a lesson was learned. Now he knows why I tell him he mustn't pick up anything with wings! I haven't seen a single wasp all summer, tgis weekend loads of them.
