If you can't leave them alone (wasps are great for pest control) and they are a danger, I'd call in a professional if it's a big nest. They can be hard to handle on your own. My council deals with thus for free.

If the entrance hole is where you can get at it you can easily deal with it yourself. Buy some powder from a garden centre or chemist.

Stand and watch the hole and work out exactly how to approach it.

Go at dusk with a torch and wait until all activity has ceased and tip the powder in and around the entrance. This can be done with a spoon on a stick. Beware they always leave a few guards at the entrance.

The wasps will take the poison deep into the nest as they pass in and out the next day and activity should slow and cease within a few days.

Some say dig out the nest but not really necessary.

last year I bought a spray wasp killer from wilkooo. it was a foam and worked really well on the nest that was in the ground by the gate.

I have used the foam and it is probably easier than powders. I was able to deal with a nest up under my eaves. I stood 2 metres away and squirted it like silly string at the hole where the foam built up to cover everything. The wasps had no option but crawl through the foam.
