Small green caterpillars
« on: September 28, 2017, 12:43 »
Small green caterpillars are decimating the few kale plants we have!  Hand picking them off the ground after flicking the plants with a small stick.

Cheers,  Tony.

I may be growing OLD, but I refuse to grow UP !

Had lots of swede plants in conservatory ready to plant a few weeks ago but reduced to stalks and saw couple of little green caterpillars after  ;)

My Kale is getting decimated too. I am presuming that they are late cabbage whites.

These are the caterpillars of the Small White. They are masters of hide and seek. Favourite trick is to lie along a leaf vein and stay very still.

Large white caterpillars are yellow/black/green and tend to stay on the leaves rather than crawl right inside caulis and calabrese.

I once had a row of kale plants in my front garden.

I was 'reliably' informed by someone that cabbage white caterpillars aren't interested in kale.

THEY LIED!!!!!!!

I later had a row of stalks which were very architectural.  ::)

Though the leaves did come back towards early spring, so not all was lost.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...
