Think I'll cover the ground with tarpolin in March then start planting a dreel per week from April.

Are you hoping to warm the ground with the tarpaulin?

Yeah, that's what I'm hoping for.  1st time trying it so not sure if a month before will be long enough or even too long...  If frosts do come after planting will covering in fleece help?  I used straw to protect them last year but I'm a bit better prepared this year.
Add me on PSN but nowadays I reach for the fork or hoe more than a controller

I don't know how much good all that covering does for potatoes. You'll note DD has said he would rather plant late to avoid frosts, although June frosts are late! I'd also think that shoozie (who has also posted in this thread) lives in a location likelty to be frosty, so her advice is valid. We don't suffer much from it here, usually it is wet ground that delays me planting things. ::)

I bought a new variety called "Casablanca" the blurb says edible sized potatoes can be achieved in 62 days.
I will start some under cloches and some chitted in the usual way and planted (tealed in Cornwall) end of Feb.  I will keep you posted.
Sometimes it is better to keep your mouth shut and be suspected of knowing nothing than opening it and proving it.

Jim's blog from Beechgrove about winter ground preparation and frost protection up your way is interesting (though brief!) ....

I ordered Lady Crystal from T&M as well so hopefully mine will arrive soon, my kitchen windowsill will be full of chitting potatoes (won't be doing much else with them for a little while), feel quite excited about the prospect of getting started with this years growing though.

Hannah :)

The website for JBA spuds doesn't seem to be doing much at all at the moment. I can get the home page up but can't get any of the menu links to work at all. I wanted to look up their polypots for spuds.
