Really garlicky garlic
« on: September 17, 2014, 20:46 »
Has anyone received their order from the really garlicky company and if so, what is it like? I ordered 25 bulbs from them but I have to say, the quality is nowhere near as good as previous years. I'd have thought it was a good year for garlic but not having grown any this year, perhaps I'm wrong.

Likewise. There are supposed to be 3-5 cloves to a bulb therefore they should be quite large. Mine have about 10 and the bulbs are not very big at all so, while I have more to plant, they will be a lot smaller than my others. Still, they weren't expensive, and I will be able to select the better ones for stock next year.

Here is a photo of mine. Perhaps there are some decent cloves in there but it's not what I ordered and expected.I have returned them and I'm hoping for a better batch. Previous garlic I've had from them has been superb.

Other than the fact that the cloves have helpfully separated themselves, I can't make out from the photo what would be wrong with them.

The cloves seem to be of good size, not ten or so per bulb as others have posted.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Perhaps I should have put a coin in the photo for perspective. The cloves are smaller than what I have received in the past and quite a few seem to be diseased. Also, the cloves didn't separate in the post, if they had I would've found the centres and bases of the bulbs, the cloves were put in separated.

Mine arrived this morning. Look pretty good. 2/7 are on the small side but overall I'm happy. Hoping for no rust next year so I can save my own again.

PPL as far as I am aware it is ok to save and replant cloves from rusted garlic. I do.

Interesting. Thanks for that-I'll bear it in mind in the future. This year the crop was so pathetic I didn't have enough spare to save anyhow! Saying that the flavour was pretty good still-small cloves but intense flavour.  :nowink:

Mine were devastated my rust and had pathetic cloves on them.

I've re-ordered this year. Guess what, from the RGC where I bought the last lot from - about 2 hours before this thread appeared!

I'll let you know.

Mmm...was a bit disappointed with mine too.  There seemed to be a bit of yellowing going on (start of rot?) and some mildew on others, so I've separated out the cloves.  I think I might pot them up this time and, put them in the ground later, just to give them a head start...

Most ok and good size couple of smaller bulbs.  Arrived promptly and compared to other companies I think the price is good. I would order again next year especially if they have different varieties.

I saw this thread on Friday and thought, oh dear I have just ordered some garlic from them, I wonder if mine will be any good.  When I got home the garlic was waiting.  I was very disappointed in the size, especially the music bulbs which are supposed to be particularly large.  Lets hope they grow well!
