Who's been digging in my bed?
« on: July 24, 2008, 18:39 »
I have a problem which I hope the mre knowledgable amonst us can solve. I garden with raised beds and over the years I have used ONLY my own compost or well rotted horse manure (Both well sieved to  a fine granular nature). Becuase my loam is so fine and the gardens all around are of heavy clay I seem to have attracted a digger. I am finding holes in my beds wherever there is space to dig one. The holes are too large to be cats, the culprit is either dog, fox or badger. There is no evidence of Lavitoral deposits so I prwsume the perpetrator is after worms or some other wild life.

I would very much welcome suggestions as to how to put a stop to what is becoming a daily, and extremely annoying event.

If I knew how to put photo's on the list I would do so.

Thanks for your kind attention,

Hopaling

moles do leave holes as well as hills. I found that if I put my foot near to the hole it sank as it was over the tunnels that had been dug. (might be a problem for you if your on raised beds).  I have had plenty this year.

I'm a non-digger but my plot has loads of moles  :(  I wouldn't mine but they keep undermining my veggies, leaving them high and dry. The seedlings  get dragged all over the place and moley played havoc with my onion sets

The holes we are getting at the moment are down to rabbits
