Small silvery shrub needed.
« on: June 02, 2017, 12:07 »
I have two 8 foot square areas surrounded by box hedges that have an ornamental pot (empty) in the middle. I would like some ideas for something to fill the space in between. Thinking of something silvery as a contrast that can be pruned to the same height. I live on a flat area near the sea so, even though my garden does have some shelter, they will need to be fairly hardy. Any ideas?
I work very hard so don't expect me to think as well.

How about Convolvulus cnoreum? (sp?)

It's common name is Silver Bush and it really is lovely. Easy to keep fairly low too

I grew one of these some years ago, and it was very pretty.  The only thing I found was that it wasn't  very hardy, but if grown in a pot that should't be a problem.

Goosey, what about a globe artichoke?

Seriously, you'll have a marvellous, statuesque plant, you can use the flowers to eat, take the runners and have a living space for ages, including having all those delicious flower heads for a treat each year!

Mrs Growster has already been hooked on the ones we got going last year, and anything which gets Mrs Growster going is just fine by me..;0)

(If you want, I'll email Mr Goosey to explain all this, but knowing you, and the fact that he is a gourmet chef, I'm sure he will easily understand..;0)

Ha-ha Growster, They'll flop all over my box hedge! No - it's something in between the pot and hedge that I want. I'll have a look at the convolvulus and see.
