manure

Not sure what will happen, but I've covered mine with horse manure over winter - just laid it thick on the top and open to the elements!

My first time, so the spring will give me the answer!

i took on a derelict plot summer 2011 so ive been diggin out beds a bit at a time one thing i noticed when digging was a lack of worms,around march this yaer id dug a large 10ft x10ft bed weeded it best i could turned it all over covered we manure and left alone, middle sept i covered it we visqeen for q fortnight then uncovered and turned the ground over with a fork the amount of worms was amazing and the soil looked great ive left uncovered now for the winter.
