brussel sprouts tops
« on: October 19, 2012, 09:07 »
This is my first year of growing sprouts and they are doing very well. The sprouts are nearly thumbnail sized and the plants are HUGE......about 3/4'
I was wondering whether you can harvest the tops before the sprouts are full sized? I've got some lovely lush tops!!
Does the plant need them to provide energy to swell the sprouts? If you cut them will the plant try to re-grow and take goodness from them? There are lots of lower leaves at the moment but I assume they will die back?
I am really wanting to eat those tops!!! ::)

I'm not an expert but doesn't pinching the top out of plants make lower growth stronger? It might make the sprouts bulk up!

I'd be happy to be corrected!

I have sprouts in but my tips have been eaten by caterpillars!
