the magneto has rusted  badly and cannot be repaired and hence no spark being produced

does anyone know where i may find spares

Rust is not usually a big problem on B & S magnetos. As long as rust is cleaned off the flywheel and the parts of the armature that just clear it, with emery. It is far more likely that the points and/or points pushrod are at fault. Once the points are cleaned with emery and re-gaped to 0.020” check that they are closing, if not, the pushrod is stuck, finger pressure downwards on the plunger whilst turning the crankshaft round usually frees it but if it is well stuck you may be best going for a later, contactless ignition coil. This is also the best option if the coil really is beyond use. However pre 1964 magnetos had a three pole armature and the later two pole armature coils can’t be used with this flywheel. The one smud6ie links to is very reasonably priced, or you should still be able to get genuine B & S ones from Briggs and Stratton agents.
