Lawn flower ID
« on: October 04, 2012, 18:38 »
This is one of those annoying posts which ask you to identify a flower by description when it would have been simple to put up a photo and get a positive id..........but the phone with camera was on charge at home ! ::)

This plant seems to be spreading rapidly in a 4 year old turf lawn.

Flower spike 75 mm high
Flowers blue/violet 10mm long looking like a mini snapdragon with 6 flowers in a level ring around the spike x 6 rings high.
Leaves are pointy oval 10-15 mm long one level each side of the stalk.

I thought a mini orchid of some variety but that is a wild guess from a non flower grower!

Over to you !  :)

You are probably right with bugloss, MoS but another possible is Ajuga - creeping bugleweed, althout it's leaves are not pointy however

Yes, got it in one Mum ! :)

As you say they are more compact than the one in the photo if they are used to ducking the flymo !
