Guess it's that time of year again. 

We have evidence of rats in our garden and run.    Moving in for the winter?

It doesn't help either this year, they've started some Major building work in the fields almost bang opposite us - a new hospital and road infrastructure, so you can imagine the scale....

Last year, I used poison, it seemed to work, I saw no dead ones anywhere (but did it work?).

So this year, I've thought about using a fenn trap, so I know if I got any.

Would anyone recommend them, or stick to poison?

I would contact the Council and say you have only had a problem since the building work started.  They may get the builders to do something about it.

Agree with ANHBUC. Several councils  have contractors using birds such as falcons for pest control during building works, so be worth a word with the pest controllers rather than just making a general complaint.
