can I winter prune my padrons yet?
« on: September 28, 2012, 13:55 »
The Padron peppers are still in the lounge and after giving us amazing crops are now looking the worse for wear. The greenfly have eventually won despite the heroic attempt of my ladybird and my squishing program.

I am going away for 3 weeks and would like to cut all the greenfly and foliage off and move them to their winter quarters so that I can clean out the stickiness from the bay window!!

Is it too early to do this? Should I wait until I get back despite the fact that the greenfly will have taken over my home   :(

If the infestation is that bad, then prune off the leaves and dispose outside.

Why not take the plant outside and blast the aphids off with a hose?

Might take a couple of goes to get rid of them all but should do the trick. I don't know anything about Padron peppers specifically, but my cayennes did very well indoors this year after being "tidied up" for the winter and then repotted in spring (cutting back to 8" sounds a little severe but I might be wrong on that score.)
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!
