Tip for Growing Perennial Sorrel
« on: September 25, 2012, 16:27 »
I'm not sure if this is widely known, so I though I would share.

Last year I grew a bed about 1m in length, 10cm in width and 5cm in depth with some sorrel in it. It had a great flavour in the first year, but this year the leaves were all woody with little flavour. So I dug the bed out and mashed up the root structure. Many of the knuckles that the plant goes from were left in the bed and these grew back very quickly with all the zest and tenderness of newly planted seed.

This is the stuff we used to call "Sour docks."

As kids after a long day out in the sunshine and still miles from home and no horse trough in which to quench our thirst, sour docks used to keep us going.  ::)

Cheers,    Tony.
I may be growing OLD, but I refuse to grow UP !
