Jolly good  :D
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

Harvested mine today as I wanted to clear the polytunnel. I guess about 2 kg of tubers in total from six tubers, each at about 10cm length. Will try them this weekend and if we like them I'll save about a dozen for planting next year

Tried them roasted tonight. Found them quite bland and uninspiring. Will try them cooked another way on Sunday and will also get opinions from son and daughter who have taken some away to try them but am tending towards never bothering with them again.

Compared with the rest of today's harvest of leek, parsnip, carrots and celeriac, they come nowhere I'm afraid

My 'furtling fingers' are getting very itchy!  ::)
No evidence of the tubers in the raised bed but the two in the planter have quite a few I can see on the surface.
I did inadvertently harvest one this afternoon (it fell off in my hand - honest!   ) which was growing from one of the stalks and hanging in the air and it had doubled in size from a week or so ago.
May be tempted to harvest the ones I can see just in case the frost gets to them..... :D

Dug up a few today -- lovely red tubers abtou two inches long, and some smaller roundy ones.

The rest can stay there for another couple of weeks as they will come to no harm

Steaming them in foil, with butter, black pepper and lemon to have tonight with dinner

First of the season -- heralds of winter time in our house  :D :D :D

That sounds lovely Sunshine.  :tongue2:  Please report back, I've never tried them and I suspect it could be a while yet!  ::)

Hi sunshine, I am near Tywford.  My oca leaves have now been killed off but I have not looked for any tubers yet.  Should I or can I wait until the winter festival in 3 weeks?  Also, does the taste improve after the oca is stored for a while?

Ian

Just had a word with Realseeds on their Facebook page.
They said to leave them until the plants are really dead but that surface tubers can be harvested now to prevent frost damage.
I guess a bit of protection would also do the trick but I'm too impatient to wait.   ::)
I'll try to give mine another couple of weeks but am going to harvest any on the surface now.  :D

VERY glad I had a look!  Took a small handful from the surface but the largest one (4cm) was riddled with nibble holes.
Bring on the blue pellets of doom!  :D

I have taken up some of the ones near the surface, but they carry on swelling until the foliage is completly gone. not just mushy, but really dead

The taste does not chnage with storage

Last night we had the steamed ones, as I said, but also roasted a couple with the potatoes (for about 15mins only) and they were delicious  :D :D
