Sick Chicks
« on: September 21, 2012, 15:11 »
I just got an order of 25 chicks. One died in the box and another is having trouble walking/standing. About a half hour later another one started falling over and I don't think she's going to make it.Any ideas????

I'd contact the person you bought them from and take them back immediately.  Keep them away from any existing poultry you have.

How old are they?  It could be dehydration or they may have been overheated in transit.  Mix a little honey with boiled water and cool.  Dip the chicks beak in but not above the nostrils.

They are two days old now and doing much better. The Hatchery said to give them honey as well so I have been. I'm just having trouble with one. She has a bad leg and is getting trampled. I'm thinking I'll just have to seperate her.

Probably has splayed leg.  You can hobble the chick with a piece off a plaster to bring the legs in to line.  Leave it on for around 7 days and the legs will strengthen.  Make sure they are not kept on a slippery surface which will make it worse.
