Where has Alan Romans gone?
« on: September 12, 2012, 21:19 »
I bought some seeds from Alan Romans last year, bargain prices and very pleased with them. When I went to go to his website today, to check out if he sold some seeds I was looking for, it's disappeared. If you try to go to that url now you get redirected to T&M. Has the company been bought by T&M? I know he was making their seeds look outrageously overpriced, but that seems a bit drastic.

I've just sent them an email to find out what's going on.

It's possible somebody's hacked into their server.

Oh no, I often use Alan Romans.  Really cheap seeds.

I wouldn't put it past T&M to buy them out, gets rid of a bit more competition!

I have just clicked on my saved link to Alan Romans site and gone straight to T&M   :(

....................But, I have just had a look at their spud prices and they look quite good.

20 x Desiree = £2-99
60 x Desiree = £7-99

I think I shall have to give this a good coat of looking at.

They haven't been taken over/bought out by T&M have they?

This seems an obvious answer to me, especially having looked around a little.

If you google "alan romans fife", you will get various results, some with phone numbers. Might be worth a try.

It sure looks like it I'm afraid  :( :( :(

I used to buy my seed potatoes from them, and the prices quoted by T&M are much higher than last year, and fewe varieties too.

I shall be comparing prices carefully when other suppliers list theirs ( a wee bit early for some).

I know Alan Roman's was hit hard with their crops the previous year, as I had an email circular to say that they couldn't meet all orders as a result (mine was OK) so maybe that is why they seem to have sold.

Garden organics prices are not too bad, when you consider you only have to pay £1 for postage
on an order up to £12  ;)

I was on the JBA forums a few days ago and Iain mentioned that they will be offering a reduced selection this year. I wonder if the growers have had a poor harvest?

Maybe that explains why T&M suddenly seem to have a big supply of very cheap White Lady seeds. I always bought mine from Alan Romans because his price for them was incredibly cheap, whereas all the other suppliers (including T&M) charged an arm and a leg for them.
