A quick simple rule is that the sets for sale now are for over winter growing to be ready in May / June... and the ones for sale in Feb / March are the Spring planting ones for summer crop.. these are the ones to grow for storing.

There are so many summer types...   I grow stuttgarter giant, setton, sturon, turbo.
Now a member of the 10 Ton club.... 2013  harvested 588 Kg from 165 sq mt..

Thanks for the info on storing.  Will only do a few rows now and then get some spring varieties and try them as I like to store onions.  I like big onions so I might try Stuttgarter Giant in the spring.

I've had good crops from Stuttgarter and Sturon and they both store well.
Not so good with red onions oddly? ???
Hoping my winter Senshyu do well - no sign of green sprouts yet.
