Blighted basket toms
« on: September 08, 2012, 20:03 »
I've had to give up and chuck out my Gartenperle because they're well and truly blighted. I use extra big hanging baskets for them every year, with built in permanent coir liners. Am I safe using these again next year or could they carry the blight spore and I need to rip them out and put in new liners?

Blight only survives on living tomato material, so they should be fine if you clean them out thoroughly

Blight is carried in live plant material. Coir isn't.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Goodo, because they're so much easier to work with than loose coir liners. Don't know how well I can clean them because coir kind of falls to bits if you get too rough with it, but there certainly won't be anything still living on it by next season.
