« on: September 05, 2012, 10:10 »
Hi Guys,
I am about to buy my Autumn sown Garlic, has anyone some advise on where to buy for this season.

Also which store the best softneck or hardneck?
Thanks FB

Im buying my garlic from wilkinsons - its only £2 for 3 bulbs. Oh and softneck is the best for storing.  ;)

Softneck are more 'man-made' so have lost the ability to produce flowers (most of the time) and produce large bulbs.  Hardnecks flower and produce smaller bulbs but with more flavour.

I think both types store well, but hardneck possibly win.

I get mine from the Isle of Wight Garlic Farm.  Their website has lots of info about different types and growing etc.

I'll be getting my Music from the really garlicky company again this year - just lots more than last year. ::)

Softneck garlic stores better but hardneck is hardier and better for growing in a cooler climate such as most of the UK.

I like to grow different varieties each year so I get some via the lotty shop, some from Wilko some from the Garlic Farm and some from Fothergills. I like garlic  :tongue2:
