Sour Crop - Help
« on: August 24, 2012, 09:49 »
Hi All

My bantam cockerel appears to have sour crop, he went to roost last night with what appeared to be a very full crop, this morning it is very swollen and squashy!

I am yet to smell his breath...but on confirmation of smelly breath will start to treat him for sour crop.

Do i have to empty his crop of liquid or can i leave it (i'm a little worried about choking him) and just give him bio yoghurt?

Please let me know what your experiences are with sour crop and what treaments worked for you.

Thanks

There are many posts on here about sour crop.  Here is one that may help and explains the difference between sour and impacted crop.

My cockerel still has a squashy crop but not the horrendous smell that would normally accompany sour crop, it's definitely NOT impacted as it is completely soft with no hard lumps at all.

I have emptied his crop twice a day since my first post and provided him with bio yoghurt, his normal food and water with garlic and ACV.

He hasn't crowed for days now but appears to be intermittently craning his neck to one side.

Is there anything else it could be?

Is there anything else I can do for him?
