Is blight the same for potatoes and tomatoes?

Is it the same blight for both spuds and tomatoes I wonder?

My potatoes were blighted this year but my tomatoes which are only in the next bed are still lush and green with lots of flowers coming to fruit; fingers crossed - no sign of blight.

It even made me think of growing lots more tomatoes and growing much fewer spuds next year as toms are much more expensive.

Now I have posted this, I guess they will go down!

Yes, late blight is caused by the same fungus-type pathogen (Phytopthora infestans) in both - it's not exactly obvious  ::) but potatoes and tomatoes are in the same botanical "family."
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

One of the best things about being an orang-utan is the fact that you don't lose your good looks as you get older

Don't forget that for blight to infect a plant a spore needs to a) land on the plant and b) germinate.

The first is very likely to happen if it hasn't already, the second is down to the degree of wetness and temperature (and also whether you have used a fungicidal spray to try to protect the plants.)

Different varieties also have different degrees of resistance.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

I had two tomato plants next to each other in pots in the garden. One was destroyed by blight, the other it still there and uninfected. Just one of those things you have to get used to.
