Broody Chicken.
« on: August 09, 2012, 21:11 »
We have come back from our family hols and found we have a broody chicken. I have managed to get some hatching eggs for her and she is sitting on them.

One of the other ladies keeps on going and attacking the eggs! Shall i move the Broody into the spare coup?

We have rejected 2 from the 8 eggs as they were cracked. Will she reject others that are not good?

I think it is best to let the broody have her own place and peace and quiet.

People do say that a broody will reject eggs that are not viable.  Not sure if this is true as my broody sat on six eggs and only five hatched.  When I checked the unhatched one it had only developed to the 8 to 10 day stage and the broody was still sitting on it until 2 days after the chicks had hatched before she rejected it.
