what breed am I (also eventually uploaded pics!)
« on: August 08, 2012, 17:16 »
Firstly thanks to themagicaltoad1 and Jo57 for helping me to understand how to upload these pics.

I am in Sw France and was given a cock and a hen as a present for my little boy!!!! I was told that they are called crickets here, I think they are bantams! I lost the original hen and another farmer replaced it (he said it was a cricket but she is must bigger than him)

I see all your posts about breeds etc. and I would like to know what have I got!

Many Thanks in advance.

Its difficult to say due to the size of the pics but I would say the hen is a buff sussex or close to. I would say the cockerel has welsummer in there. I would not say they are pure breeds though so I am just guessing.

The nearest I could find was a Tolbunt Polish x Black Copper Marans cockerel but the legs were the wrong colour.

It does look like a Welsummer with possibly a barred cross of some sorts!

Thank you! I have looked at these species on line and they are very similair, so at least I now know what I have, the only difference I would say is my hens have short feathers on there heads like they have had a blow dry and there hair styled? is that a trait from another breed.

maybe the term cricket is for bantam here, not necessarily the breed! The cockerel is only about 12"/30cm tall, the big hen being around 18" head to toe, and then little hen (a chick from the two - maybe around 10")

I willfind out eventually!

the male looks very similar to a millfleur barbu d' uccle but without the feathered legs and feet. I can't tell if he has a beard or not from the photo's. Possibly he is a cross between a barbu d' uccle and a barbu d' anvers.
Any chance of a clearer photo to show us bit more detail?

I agree looking at the millefleur barbu, with the white spotty chest too! he doesnt appear to have a beard though! I have taken some more shots and hopefully a photobucket link will work below!

if it doesnt work can someone let me know what I should be doing, i just copied and pasted the link that said for forums!

no beard, no rosecomb and clean legged so I would guess he is a millefleur butch bantam.
The big girl looks like she could be an araucana cross something along the lines of a cream legbar.

Hopefully you can see the photo that I uploaded a while ago asking what is the breed, nobody was sure I think they are mixed, mum is the litte hen in this photo

I am going to try and get some pics of the newbies tomorrow if she will let me.

regard to food, I could put the chick crub in during the day when the other two are out and then lift it out at night when the other two go back in. I worry that if I leave them apart too long we will only have to go through intergration again!

I remember them now.  Your chicks should be a pretty bunch.

If the hens can see each other they should be alright and a broody is not to be messed with so they should keep their distance.
