I can see the point of the combi bit, microwave and convection, crisp up the outside but cook the inside quicker ....  it isnt unknown for me to start something in the microwave and then move it to the oven to crisp up and finish. 

But .......

If I am to make best use of one - what do I cook in?  Okay, pyrex is good for casseroles and veg and stuff like that but say a cake or fruit loaf?  Or muffins??    Can't use a cake tin/loaf tin and microwave together ... and who would want a casserole shaped victoria sponge?   

Is this what is driving the silicon moulds/cake tins/ muffin tins?  that they are microwave and oven and therefore combi safe??

Was just going to say silicone. I still find it odd, the thought of using something soft and flexible in a conventional oven but I believe you can.

Took me a while to get used to silicon, but I now use my silicon 'tins' in the fan oven, microwave and my halogen oven.  Brilliant!
