Grape vine recomendation
« on: July 30, 2012, 11:27 »

I have a couple of chardonnay vines that are just becoming established and will hopefully make some decent growth now over the next few years...   I'm quite keen of putting some more vines in and training over a trellis structure - not sure what type though!

I would like a couple of grapes vines for eating and a perhaps 6 vines for juicing / wine.  Any recommendation from fellow grape vine growers here as to the type that grows well in this climate (and with good flavour)

Black Hamburg has a lovely flavour and crops really well.

As soon as the onions are lifted I'm starting a small vineyard area on the allotment, I can't say I've chosen the varieties as much as it was a case of what was available.. so I'll be planting three each of Müller-Thurgau, Phoenix and Perlette.  Hoping that a good mix will stand a better chance of getting a crop and something drinkable at the end of a fermentation!  All three of these varietes are also noted as being suitable for eating as well as juice/wine.

I have got a small vineyard area on my plot consisting of syval blanc and richtenstiener grapes. They have done ok, probably would do better if i had spent a bit more time looking after them.
