Young bantams Cockerels Learning to Crow
« on: July 27, 2012, 09:24 »
This might sound harsh to other members. Mine have started crowing, three boys, I don't mind, but it gets a bit much sometimes.
I think I have found the answer. I went in to the garden, prepared the hose, when he started crowing  he got a  hose full of water, that shut him up. they beat a hasty retreat, I don't mind getting up early to let them out   6.30 am , feed them , clean them, but I have to consider my Neighbors, most like the sound, but one or two not too happy, with it

I don't wish to cause offence but surely when you got 3 cockerels you knew they would end up cock-a-doodle-dooing?  Pasting them with jets of water does sound pretty harsh
When I was young we used to go 'skinny dipping,' now I just 'chunky dunk.'

they will all try to compete with each other in their crowing - sadly this is what cockerels do. If your drench them through you really ought to dry them off rather than leaving them dripping wet.
Staffies are softer than you think.

Probably better to choose your favourite and get rid of the other two  :(
I have a young bantam cockerel and it has taken him about 4 weeks to get his crow sounding like a proper crow and boy can he crow, quite loud and quite often  ::)

My 2 bantam cockerels have just started to crow this last week.  Have managed to rehome 3 but it looks like the pot for the last 2.  Will have to wait for a week though as I have just wormed them.   ::)  That will give me until next Monday to try and rehome them whilst trying to keep the crowing to an acceptable level.
