Peas going over
« on: July 25, 2012, 20:59 »
All my pea plants seem to be starting to die back. I have had a couple of pickings off them and another good picking to come. But now they are looking untidy with mottled leaves and some dry leaves. The plants are starting to look quite scraggy with no new flowers coming on.

Should the be like this now or should they have gone on a bit longer. Wish I had thought about a second planting as I would have seeded some a few weeks ago to replace the current ones

We're sowing a new batch Kergs. Why not?

If we have a warm autumn, we'll get a crop which is doing the same as it would in a warm spring and early summer! Mildew? - maybe it won't get there at all!

Goferit - its only the price of a packet of seeds and a bit more gardening - which is what its all about!

There are several seasons in the year these days. We've been through a wet, nasty one, and the results are there - or not! I certainly will bet on a better three or four months now, because my glass is always half full!

I've got the same problem. I have eight 15' rows and they are all doing the same. I thought maybe all the rain had washed the nutrients out of the soil.
I've just sown another 15' row where some of my 2nd early spuds came out from. I'll keep sowing as I have nothing to lose as Growster says.

A couple of pickings and then a clear up before you pull them out is the norm for peas.

Unless you are saving some for next year's seed

Last night three people at different time told me those peas'll be a bit tough now you know

I'm going to put upa a sign saying 'Saving seed - Do not Pull up!'

Thanks for that. I thought I read somewhere that they would keep flowering and cropping as long as they were looked after and the pods picked regular. First proper year for me and peas.

I will crack on with a second batch at the weekend.  ::)
