Cauli question
« on: November 12, 2007, 20:49 »
Hi
Got caulis in but somethings been eating the leaves, its so bad on some plants the tiny curd is exposed.  I think the leaf eating has stopped but the damage has been done.  Do I need to protect the curds through winter?  Is it worth trying to wrap the remainder of the outer leaves round it.  Or do I have to pick the worse effected and have the smallest cauliflower cheese in history?
Any help gratefully received
Ness x

Seems like the curd shouldn't be there at all.  Which variety and when did you plant out please?

Not sure what variety they are, got them in a bundle from a garden centre (that doesn't help does it!).  If my memory serves me right, and it often doesn't, I think I planted them out in July or August.  I think they are meant to over winter and be ready in spring? A couple of plants have got curds the size of tennis balls.  It seems the plants with the eaten leaves have produced the curds.

I think you'll be eating them early but see what others say 'cos your winters are much milder than mine.
