Transplating Leeks
« on: July 24, 2012, 23:55 »
Hi Everone, Hope you can help!!
I planted out my leeks in our veg plot about 4 weeks ago, some of them have bent over & laid down but the rest look ok. We also planted 5 in a tub & they look very healthy, can  they be transplanted into veg plot to replace the lazy ones?
Keith.

Mine are lying down during the day, but first thing in the morning they are upright. i think it is the hot weather.

I transplanted 32 autum giants on Friday dibbing  in six inches dropped in the plant then put in a pinch of blood fish and bone before filling the hole with water they are all stood to attention .
Some people trim the roots and tops before planting to force new growth I think this is just a personal preference .

I still have a few to transplant when space becomes available I may try the cutting method just for a comparison.

yes you can plant out the ones from the tub, but the bent over ones may be ok in a while. May be best to wait and see  ;)

It has now been confirmed that trimming the root's or leaves lower's yield's.
