I am wondering what blue mash might be like though.

They taste fine just like any potato.....if you can get past the dingy grey colour

I grow bulls blood beets every year and they tend to make more leaf growth for salads than they do root bulb. If you're after bigger beet bulbs, Detroit is always dependable.
Does detroit have the red leaves that's what I'm after really altought the roots of bulls blood seam to be filling out ok.

I also have yellow and purple mange tout and purple sprouts in this year.

I've been seriously toying with the idea of coloured mange tout, not because I particularly want coloured mange tout but because it's incredibly difficult to pick mange tout as it's so good at hiding in a jungle of green foliage. I spend ages staring at the plants and still miss them. Does it keep that colour when cooked or does it turn green like the coloured French beans do?

They seem to keep their colour on the whole, the odd one seems to change to darker green, but you can definitely see the difference.  I have also found that they seem to be unappealing to the pigeons too so I haven't had to net them.

Detroit have nice red leaves but not quite as many as Bull's blood which will eventually develop a reasonable sized root.

If you're after lots of tender leaves, consider    BEETROOT EGITTO MIGLIORATA from Seeds of Italy. AKA Egyptian beets.

Golden mangetout for us this year, and they stay that way on cooking too

First year we had the veg plot at school we grew two whole bed of purple veg - carrots, potatoes, radishes, dwarf beans, dwarf PSB, beetroot, red cabbage, purple edged savoy and red dwarf kale, red onions, purple topped turnips, purple podded peas and dark leafed lettuce

(The purple khol rabi didn't do much  though)

The children thoroughly enjoyed it all  :D
