have got the lot done at last

taking the remainder of the duck house up tonight to the OH's as i've already taken the run and other bits already.

finished the 'duck ramp' off  . . . . .

and started on the 'pond' after seeing those articles on making things out of old railway sleepers, this is done out of roofing joists and the lip and liner are yet to be fitted.

got all the duck house in the back of the car at the mo in pieces with just the 'front door' to strap on the roof, made it so it breaks down into bits like so  . . . . . .

cant wait to get it all set up and ready    :D
think i'm as excited as the OH is lol

and a question, do most of you generally lock your chickens/ducks in at nite?? as in lock them in you hen/duck house with a closed door and is it for warmth/safety or both??

or do you let them have the freedom of a run/pen but with an open door??

thanks

dave

Really looking forward to seeing a picture of it assembled with ducks in residence Dave.

I think it's best to close you birds in over night to prevent predation more than keep them warm  :D

thanks aunt sally, but if they are in the house and the runs closed up as it will be at nights, nothing could get in anyway (without a set of wire cutters lol)  its weldmesh sides and its fully lockable, plus there'll be buried mesh round the sides too.

i'm just thinking of them needing a drink in the night but i gather that if water was left inside they'd either have it all over their bedding or  trying to go swimming in it lol

See you already did ask.

Fir the water in the house use a box(to put bucket in)  or strap maybe to hold it upright.

I used to let my ducks have free range in the garden (about a quarter of an acre) and just lock them up at night but I lost 3 of them to foxes - on the last occasion, it was after they had been let out for the day.  I now have electric poultry netting that I move around the garden.  It gives them 50 sq metres so they are much more restricted but at least they're safe.
