Early potatoes
« on: July 05, 2012, 11:52 »
i planted Foremost, 1st early on the same day and next to Kestrel, second early. Kestrel are a week earlier to maturity (big enough to eat) than Foremost. Seed from same source and shoots the same length. Are the classifications correct?  Anyone similar experience?

Have you had a lot of rain in your area?  My experience of Kestrel is that during very wet summers and left to die back naturally, the spuds can grow to an enormous size (made great baking potatoes, yum yum).  If you had left the Kestrel to the suggested lifting date, I bet you would have found them a lot bigger too.
