i bought some rosemary in a supermarket and i want to plant it.
its pot bound in its shop pot and has 3 seperate plants in the pot.

can i just seperate them and pot up sperately? or will this damage the plant?

i plan to keep on growing, one in the kitchen to use now and one i'm going to cut now and dry. does this seem ok.

I found rosemary to be fairly tough and would be tempted to split it into three plants.

Do  you have garden 'cos if so I would plant them in a sunny position in well drained gritty soil and it will grow on to be a goodly sized shrub which will look pretty and give you leaves for cooking all year.

The supermarket herbs are grown very soft so just beware of putting a plant directly outside.  Treat it as a tender plant and harden it off slowly and it will be fine   

Once acclimatised to the real world, it will be as tough as any other rosemary

ok thanks i will keep it protected in a pot and then plant out once i have the border sorted.

i got chive a few weeks back and divided them, the outdoor pot is doing really well (have to keep taking the flowers off tho). the indoor one needs to grow more now ive used it!

didnt have much joy growing from seed with my herbs.

Bought a lemon verbenna plant from a herb nursery, (just love the fizzy lemony scent).

Took three cuttings and they have all taken.  :happy:

My Rosemary didn't fair well over the last winter (unprotected). I thought it would be OK because of our climate. I'd use fleece or similar protection in the winter.

Waterlogging will kill them, and cold easterly winds sometimes scorch mine, but the only one I've actually lost was in summer when I rested a slightly less than watertight hose nozzle on it (the ground gets further away every year!) and forgot about it overnight.

Within a few days it started to die off from the centre and I had to start some new cuttings PDQ - I think the dampness caused botrytis blight.

I've found a better parking place for the hose now (and fixed the drips!)
