pinching out tomatoes
« on: July 04, 2012, 23:46 »
I have a gd tomato with 4 stems, each stem has 2/3 trusses. Should I pinch out the top now  or thin out the branches? The plant is about 5ft tall

thanks dmg

it depends how high you want it to get. Mine are in the greenhouse and I will pinch out the tops as soon as it gets near the gutterline of my greenhouse.

as it should really only have one stem I guess it's probably reached ( or already exceeded ;)) the number of trusses it could reasonably grow/ripen.

I would pinch out the tops and any new side shoots that appear from now on.

Make sure you support the branches well and it will need lots of feeding and watering. :)
