Calabrese and sprout leaves
« on: July 04, 2012, 20:34 »
I was late getting my calabrese in as I lost the first lot. Although they are growing they are nowhere near the stage of getting heads and I'm not sure they will.

Question is, can I just eat the leaves on the calabrese and also those on the sprout plants. Are they bitter or will they make me ill, or are they nice to eat.

Plenty of time for the calabrese to flower so I wouldn't go eating the leaves.  One of ours is starting to form a head, and I think that's a bit earlier than usual for us.  The only sprout leaves I've eaten are the tops - after the sprouts have gone :)  sprout tops are a delicious treat in winter

Lol I'm not sat with me knive and fork waiting to attack them. But they do have some nice big leaves on them and I was thinking that if they don't come through then perhaps I can eat the leaves later in the year.
