Would this work???
« on: July 04, 2012, 14:53 »
Following all the dramas, I am still in a position of 2 x ISA Browns in one house and big run, and 1 x re-feathering Sussex in smaller house and run alone (her mate Oeuf-elia was put to sleep 2 weeks ago). After the terribly bullying, I am reluctant to try and re-intergrate Pauline in with the 2 brown girls, but was wondering if this would work ..........

I could position Paulines house and run DIRECTLY next to the other 2 girls - would this make it ok for her to be on her own????

Thanks as ever

Rebecca

Some people seem to manage a lone happy hen, but yes, I'm sure Pauline will be much happier if she can see the others during the day.

Thanks Grannie Annie

Longer term, would she mind being alone at night? Its a nice little house, not too giant. It was ideal for the 2 of them.

She is such a lovely girl, I would hate to cause her more anxiety by forcing her back in with the other 2.

How cold does it get in winter. Providing there is an airvent, could you wrap the house roof to keep it a bit warmer inside?

When Joy had about 8 coops, she would find 12 hens sleeping in one coop, albeit a bit cramped, and there was always a coop that maybe only had one hen in it.

As to keeping warm, she has had up to 14 chickens sleeping in the trees right through the winter.  Their own duvets kept them warm.

I think my figures are roughly right, but I'm sure she'll tell me if not!   ;)

I have two isa's and when I bought two more it all kicked off  so I built another run and coop and put that next to them for about a month and now they all live together and play nicely  well most of the time

yes Annie you are about right (15 in the trees  :)), our birds are hardier than we give them credit for, you just need to make sure there are no draughts.
Staffies are softer than you think.
