Well and truely blighted.
« on: July 01, 2012, 17:46 »

Just been down the allotment to cut down all the top growth of our earlies to hopefully stop the blight travelling down into the tubers.

The 'book o' words' say to leave the tubers in the ground for a couple of weeks while the tuber skins harden.   Something to look forward to on our return from holiday.

Cheers,    Tony.
I may be growing OLD, but I refuse to grow UP !

Are you sure it was late blight Tony.

It's easily confused with early blight.

I've got early blight on some of mine and I've just removed the infected leaves. Hopefully this will still allow the tubers to develop as normal. The concentric circles on affected areas are a characteristic of this fungal disease which is not as destructive as late blight.

Sometimes called "target spot" because of the concentric ring appearance of the lesions.

You can see from solway cropper's picture that the lesions don't cross the veins of the leaf.   They do in late blight.

Late Blight
