Hi nobby & welcome.  Perhaps if you listed some fruits that you like eating, folks will come back to you with their favourite varieties.  That sounds like quite a big fruit cage to me!  Well done.

I love redcurrants myself.

so you want some fruit then?

really ought to put a post in the wanted / swap shop cat.

i might be able to help with a few bits (although i've just sent off some - a friend might need some rasp canes removing)

Once you bothered building a cage, you don't want to waste it on things that you can grow without one, like raspberries.

Tell us, what fruit you like. You can put a self fertile fruit tree in there, like cherries on a dwarfing stock?

You'll be better off with soft fruit then. They'll grow to a good height but under 2M. Try blueberries (but needs very acid soil), black, red and white currants, gooseberries, strawberries, raspberries, etc. Just be sure the top tips don't touch the top of the cages or the birds will live up there. Pick what you like best and check the Search above for prior advice on growing. But avoid crowding - most plants will take a fair bit of room when mature and you'll need to move around.  8)

Oh, I thought you said it was 4 by 5. Assumptions. No 3rd dimension was given. Well, not much else left, then a) small bushes, not necessary to be caged, also can throw a net over, may be red currants are nicked by blck birds a lot b) could you possibly extend upwards a bit to accommodate some little fruit tress.

Question, 3rd time what would you fancy growing? And eating?

Is that right - rasps don't need a cage?
