I was just wondering what part of the leeks everyone uses -  I've always just used the white bits in cooking but the other day i was on the net and someone mentioned they use the green bits - I always thought they were posionous :oops:

I cook a delicious Spanish stew which calls for green tops in addition to white - so yep, I use 'em and I'm still here  :wink:

I use all of the leek except the roots.  The green part makes one of my favourite soups - leek and tattie

Not asleep yet - bit of a night owl.  it was was my own thread that got me thinking about the bits to use - was just clarifying that nobody was having a lend of me - still getting used to the pommy sense of humor.  Oh and yes I am a girl - if I wasn't I could of made a fortune by having 5 kids :lol:  :lol:  - thanks for the input guys (and dolls!)

I do manure for them and have large swede sort of sized ones from a Feb-March sowing. They did not need watering this summer, so no stringy ones. :)
