I'm beginning to think the yellow leaves syndrome is more to do with wind than anything else. I've got 3 Gartenperle toms in baskets, all on the same side of the house. That end is kind of L-shaped, with a single-room extension sticking out and a patio in the alcove of the L. The 2 baskets on the extension bit both have a lot of yellow and dead leaves and flowers, but the single basket on the patio bit is completely green and healthy looking. All 3 get the same amount of sun and warmth, but the 2 on the outside bit just get more wind.

No yellowing leaves here; just about half the size I'd have expected at this time of the year, Oh and no flowers yet either

Feeling lucky with my runners, they're 6' with loads of flowers - planted them where I had the chicken run, however my tomatoes are looking miserable and they're in the greenhouse.

Pale, yellow and looking sad.  :(  But enough about me, my runners are also suffering.

Mine too are disappointing, only about an inch long as yet. They`ll be fit to pick in another week or so when I`m 200 miles away!

Must remember to take the camera to the plot tomorrow and take a snap for you all. ;)
I`m left handed, what`s your excuse?

My runner beans are far from running. Not even a gentle walk this year... more like a slow limp.

Hopeless.

The french beans are even worse - I'm beginning to think they are dwarf beans not french climbing.  :(

"Flowers"?   Do they?

Indeed...My runners look better than my French beans but that isn't saying much!

Looking at my photos from last year - the runners are about 1 week behind - but the French Dwarf Beans are 2/3 weeks behind - this time last year I had French Beans 3-4" long - this year the flowers are just starting to form. Lack of warmth and cold winds to blame I think?

my runners have reached top of the 8 feet banboo with lots of flowers and about 10 tiny beans forming!

also some have got blackflies

french beans are about 6 feet tall and lots of flower buds.
Rain at night, sunshine all day long!

not having any luck with runners this year have about 6 plants out of 50 seeds and they do not look very healthy. we think the others that did germinate have been eaten by slugs and snails as after putting slug pellets down found a dozen or so snail shells. also tried 20 seeds in pots and only 4 of them germinated but that was due to being to cold we think.

Having said that, my runners have grown by a foot in the last 24 hours, and I'm not exaggerating :)

Poor little things are so grateful for a bit of warm weather, aren't they.
