Irish Potatoes growing seed pods

planted a few that were in heart shapes (just never cooked them cause they were cute) and decided to plant them. They bloomed normally and then grew tomato looking fruit. It's more of the texture of a gourd. I know they are poisonous. Any suggestions or information?
