Sweetcorn still in greenhouse
« on: June 26, 2012, 22:14 »
Hi. Due to the glorious wet weather we have had recently my 90 sweetcorn plants are still in their toilet roll tubes in the greenhouse. They are a good 6inches tall now. Been planning on putting them out tomorrow come rain or shine.

Question is am i wasting my time and space or will they hopefully catch up???? HELP!!!
Start at the beginning, and finish at the end!!

Joy Larkolm says 14 to 20 weeks from sowing to harvest so we may be ok mine are only just through. if oct is like last year we are well away.

I only planted mine out at the weekend, although I'd been hardening them off for a week or so before then.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

I planted mine out a couple of weeks ago and since doing so they have shot up.  They are still a bit yellow so I gave them a foiliar feed of seeweed which seems to be working  :)  I also put a small handfull of poulty manure pellets in the bottom of each planting hole for an extra feed which worked well last year and I had a realy good crop of cobs.

I planted out my two batches 3 and 2 weeks ago - the earlier ones are just getting over their "pale but interesting" phase, the others are still green, but none of them have grown much, if at all. I keep telling myself they are like ducks on a pond - not much visible on the surface but furious activity underneath (huge roots growing which will soon be powering the plants on to the best sweetcorn crop ever!)

(Anyone think I need to review my medication?)
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!
