Hello,I have a 18 mth old bantam hen,who is broody.When i put her outside to feed she acts normally then has bouts of wringing her neck.As if something is stuck in her gullet.and also walking backwards.I have looked on the internet and can only come up with possible Newcastle disease.All my other 8 bantams are fine.Could anyone help me with diagnosis and possible treatment please.Many thanks-Alec

I think the last  recorded case of Newcastle disease in UK was in 1997 and it is notifiable.
When was your hen last wormed?
Have you checked if there's something stuck in her throat?

Thank you for the reply.I wormed them in Feb with flubenvet.I have examined her and she does not seem to have anything in her throat.Interestingly I have her put into a rabbit hutch(sick bay) and this seems to have shook her out of her broodiness and she does not seem to be jerking,as she is trying to get out to return to the main coop where she was broody.I will worm them all again and keep an eye on her for a few days.Thanks Again Alec

Hi noticed last night one of my hens was doing the same thing all of the other 5 are fine watched her this morning and she seemed to be ok but tonight she has been doing the same thing but more often. Dont know what to do for her she seems to twist her neck and then moves backwards then she's ok for a minute and then does it again.
