my broad beans are about 4t high
have been told that i have to pinch out the top to stop them growing
BUT do i have to also if i leave them to grow taller does it make any difference to the beans
all advice is greatly received

I only pinch out the tops if they get black fly on them

I take the view that a plant needs its leaves to grow with

Glad you asked this question Eileen, I was just thinking a the lotty that my plants are tall but looking very healthy with no black fly.

Thanks sunshineband i have been and line strung around them and they are looking very happy and all stood very proud of themselves no blackfly detected so left fab site xx

Pinching out the tops has several benefits as well.

The flowers begin to fill out into beans a bit quicker, the blackfly doesn't get in, as said here, and also, they taste fantastic as a quickfive second stir-fry!

They also don't blow over when they're tall!
