Poppy invasion
« on: June 20, 2012, 23:14 »

Last year I made some flower beds, from some overgrown ground

They are 10x20ft, 8x15ft, 3x30ft and 3x40ft.

The thing is I can not remember  putting any  poppy seeds down, but they are all over the

place.

There are some of those big peony poppies also, Like Kleftiwallahs

Is it possible that they all were blown in on the wind?

Also will they  seed for next year.

Thanks Carl

They were more than likely already in the soil, and when you turned the ground over you exposed them so they grew.

Yes they will self seed, or you van cut the pods off and put them where you want them, even if that's the dustbin

This was very impressive last year

For something with a very bad rep they really are spectacular.

I do love these, and as they are so easy to weed out from anywhere they really do cause a nuisance, they are welcome to stay

Overheard at our Open Evening yesterday, from a Year 3 child showing her father round our rather overgrown veg plot:

'These are the potatoes, you can see their flowers now. And this is our opium: that's not ready yet...'
