Broody hen
« on: June 20, 2012, 20:42 »
I have a broody hen for the first time, she's only young and been laying eggs for 2 weeks,
A) if I get fertile eggs do I need a special set up, I have 3 hens all together, or do they just manage
B) how can we stop it, if we do will she get broody again?

To stop her you can keep lifting her out of the nest frequently of put her in a dog cage so her underbelly can cool down. She will go brrody again.
If you want to get fertile eggs I would put her in a seperate hut (rabbit hutch/coop) so she is left undisturbed. She will need to be taken off each day so she can eat and poop.
Choose what eggs you have remember that most people do not like cockerals, so self sexing might make life easier.
