My 8 chicks have managed chick crumb and nearly finished 1st sack of growers. If they weren't consuming grass as well, I would be well on my way on sack no 2 or even 3!!! Some also vaccinate the chicks. Not everyone wants cockerals and they take their time to prove they are, so there are lots of costs involved.

I get mine from a breeder in Huddersfield he calls them commercials, they are just ordinary brown hens, last year I paid £7.00 each, this year £8.00, they are vaccinated
 healthy and lay regulary. no problems so far
