Ooops... determinate or indeterminate (tomatoes)?
« on: June 19, 2012, 13:02 »
You would think this would be helpful to put on the plant label, yes?

Can anyone help me for these varieties?

Pepe F1
Coeur de pigeon (red/rouge)
Montavet
Roma Olivette
Supersteak
Supersweet 100 F1

I just thought I'd better check, after accidentally removing all of the side shoots from an Orange Queen, which wasn't labeled as determinate lol!  I was a bit too enthusiastic, after going round all of my other (confirmed) indeterminate plants  ::)

Roma is a bush, and beefsteaks are usually cordons, but I don't know any of the others Casey, sorry!  Supersweet 100 sounds like those tiny ones which are also usually bushes!

Coeur de pigeon is one of my favourite cherry tomatoes.  The same size and shape as a pigeon heart (funnily enough ;) )

Even the supermarket version is thin skinned and sweet to taste.

I think the Supersweet 100 is a cordon - well mine is anyway, they produce cherry sized tomatoes. Grannie Annie, I think the ones you're thinking of are the sweet pea ones (got those too) and yes, they're a bush... a very big bush.  ??? :)

I was just guessing at the supersweet!  Never grown them myself.  Mind you, I do grow Garderner's Delight nand they are a cordon, even though they are small!   :)

OOOOOPS Ive been pinching the side shoots of the roma's (first time ive grown them) Hopefully not to late for them to bush up and give me a decent crop. I thought the other day that they looked different from the others. The stems seem a lot thicker and more growth lower down.

My supersweet is a cordon. Out of interest how is yours doing. Mine is only 2 ft with only 2 flower branches that aren't anywhere close to opening

Mine is in a greenhouse and bought from a gc rather sown from seed by myself. Lots of different factors but the comparison was only out of interest

The Supersweet 100 F1 is GC bought (9x9cm pot) and planted out only last week.  Having said that it is doing well, and has put out a nice lot of growth over the past week.  It is now abut a foot and a half tall with 1 truss growing :)

I've told Brian not to take the side shoots out of any of my tomatoes in the polytunnel.  He can get a bit gung ho at times and takes it upon himself to take all the side shoots off MY tomatoes!  :(

But I've told him I've got some Inca and Roma in there and they need their side shoots!   :)

It looks like San Marzano should keep theirs too so I've kept my hands off those and the Romas this evening  :D
